Important Factors To Consider Before Hiring A Real Estate Attorney

Posted ByDave SynderApril 5, 2020

Let’s face facts. Estate law and estate planning is a murky subject. The average person won’t know it all. If one embarks on estate planning without the help of a good New York estate planning attorney, mistakes can and often do happen.

Paying too much. I don’t understand why people continue to pay prices twice, double, three times or more, the market price for properties in foreign lands. It seems to be some sort of mind-set whereby prices are continually compared to North America and therefore seem absurdly cheap. Never compare prices in a developing country to a rich country! It doesn’t take much effort to ask around and establish current market prices for houses, land, farms, etc. Yet these stories continue to abound: Joe Blow is bragging about how he bought an acre of land for $10,000, yet this acre should have cost $2,000 at most. Ask around, find out what comparable properties have sold for before you start your search. And negotiate – you can often get a property for much less than its list price.

1) Ask for referrals. Ask people you trust to recommend a good attorney to consult. You may wish to speak with your employer or a friend with contacts in the legal community where you live. If a trusted family member has mentioned drafting a will, find out who helped them. Talking about wills may not make you comfortable, but once it’s out in the open you’ll have an easier time finding somebody.

Ogden Valley real altération des facultés mentales consultant possesses great knowledge about the area. It usually comes with experience and may be extensive if the realtor is a local. Someone who has lived around the valley or city will know more about the place than an outsider will.

You can clearly see that you do not need to commit a crime or get sued to require the services of an estate lawyer. An estate lawyer can actually help you when you are writing your will or when you are a benefactor of one.

You get what you pay for. Find somebody who specializes in Estate Planning. Do not go to a general lawyer. DO NOT go to your family lawyer-though you might get a good recommendation from that person.

Not Getting Around To It At All. This has to be the mistake that is made the most! It makes you uncomfortable to think of your death, so you just shove it off until later. You’ll do it one day. Then you forget, and it never happens. Don’t let your estate be tied up in court for years. Let an attorney assist you in setting up an estate plan. A guardianship attorney can help you plan for the eventual care of any minor children you have. And if you’re worried about what will occur should you be incapacitated, talk to an estate planning NY professional.
